About State of Emergency

State of Emergency is at the forefront of pushing the boundaries in the development and profiling of dance of the African Diaspora in the UK. We are making positive changes in the national dance ecology, and are gaining both national and international recognition for creating a strong place for these forms in the national culture.

State of Emergency is pursuing this vision through the driving force of The Mission programme - a unique umbrella of performances, showcases, tours, festivals, conferences,  training and professional development - designed to support black dance artists to create and perform new work.

We create opportunities for showcasing performance alongside a range of activities to influence the programming agenda of UK venues, and to develop audiences for dance of the African Diaspora in order to increase the profile of black dance nationally and internationally.
