State Of Emergency. The Independent Voice for Black Dance

Events

In addition to performance and education work, from time to time State of Emergency produces one-off events, such as conferences, seminars, festivals and choreographic residencies, that highlight, explore and celebrate key issues that are relevant to all those interested in the development of black British dance.

Re:Generations 2010 – International Perspectives on Dance of the African
Diaspora

State of Emergency, ADAD (Association of Dance of the African Diaspora), IRIE! dance theatre (a dance education company specialising in African and Caribbean dance) and London Metropolitan University have already had a first meeting to begin to plan Re: Generations 2012 with the theme ‘Mapping new futures in dance of the African Diaspora, focusing on young people and talent development'.

The 2010 conference was a huge success and proved to be a great opportunity to share current research in the field of dance of the African Diaspora. Delegates were able to explore research and documentation, and to look at new approaches to education and training in the field. Feedback from delegates was unanimous in agreeing that this was a landmark event in the development and profile of Black dance.
