Making Canadian connections

Tuesday 7 February 2012

We’ve just returned from Toronto where we gave a showcase performance of Desert Crossings as part of the International Association of Blacks in Dance annual conference. We had a great reception and are now looking at developing plans for a Canadian tour in the future.

Deborah Baddoo, Artistic Director appeared on several panels where she spoke about Desert Crossings and themes including 'Case Studies of Successful Artist-Presenter Partnerships'. She was also able to pitch the company's work to several major venues in in the province.

The conference, organised by Dance Immersion, was an inspirational with opportunities to see many styles and influences of dance from the African Diaspora. It was also interesting to find out about Canadian companies and how their arts system works.  We hope to develop connections with some of the companies we saw there and most notably, the National Dance Theatre Company of Jamaica and BBoy Company led by Crazy Smooth.
