In 1991 State of Emergency raised its first piece of funding from Arts Council England with a Commission for New Composition, combined with a study of African, Jazz, Caribbean and Contemporary dance. The Commission was awarded to renowned U.S. drummer Clifford Jarvis, and the music was composed and arranged by original Jazz Warrior, Alan Weekes (Guitar) and Steve Marshall. Choreography was by Deborah Baddoo and Ellen Miller. Other contributors included Michael 'Bammi' Rose (Sax), Ernest Mothle (Bass), Patrick Cameron (Congas), Ike Leo (Bass), Colin Graham (Trumpet), Mamadi Kamara (Percussion), Steve Marshall (Piano & Vocals), Kevin Hayes (Percussion) and Trevor Watkiss (Piano). Dancers included Suzette Roca, Winston Grant, Steve Stevens and Lorna Anderson. The project toured in the UK including dates at the London Jazz Café, Shaw Theatre and WOMAD Festival.
